Miliband Backs Brown - Sort Of

First of all, welcome to 2010.

Secondly, the BBC are really outdoing themselves with their 'hug Gordon' strategy after today's coup - what number is that 4 or 5? - which now appears to have failed. 'Ministers lining up behind Brown' is currently the headline of this story. It may as well be 'Glorious leader in good health and looking forward to crushing capitalists with iron fist'.

But what's really interesting is David Miliband's statement - which has just been issued. The way he decided to stay on after letting James Purnell jump off a cliff during the summer shows he has no backbone, and this statement pretty much confirms that. Miliband said, according to the Spectator, that he is "working closely with PM on foreign policy issues & support the re-election campaign for a Labour Govt that he is leading."

Updated with full quote from the Spectator.

I'm not sure the BBC are hugging Gordon. The feeling I get is they are doing their best to pitch for a hung parliament. They have definitely downgraded the Tories since the new year.
